win24.heur

Yesterday arvo on my wife's laptop I ran AVG which came up with warnings that the win24.heur virus was firmly ensconced in the laptop's free games folder (and nowhere else). Strangely enough MalWareBytes which I ran afterwards found nothing.

Since we aren't interested in the games I deleted the games folder - it was taking up unnecessary space anyway - ran AVG again, no detection of virus this time, maWalBytes, no detection of virus, then I downloaded a msn detect-and-kill anti-virus tool which took two hours to run, no detection of virus.

Why I am not entirely happy is that google tells me this virus is hard to eradicate. I would not call deleting a suite of games particularly hard. Am I waiting unnecessarily for the other shoe to drop ?

Do you mean win32.heur? A couple of months ago AVG was giving false positives that were fixed by an update.

May have been although I remember it as 24. (A lot happened since yesterday !). Thanks, suspected it might have been a false pos.
