How common is FLV format?

I email the odd FLV file to some friends now and then, mainly due to the much smaller file size advantage than sending same in larger clunky avi/wmv format), and invariably most reply they can't open it/don't have the software blah blah.

Just asking if you think FLV is quite common now or maybe I'm just emailing the wrong crowd?

Thanks.

Send a link to your fave FLV player when you send a vid. Popular one HERE.

Or stop sending vids...

VLC Media Player is another popular one VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

FLV is a common file type, used in many websites, including youtube.
Basically the flash player processes it.
FLV player (linked above) is a nice, stable, light way to do the job.

I find .flv format very convenient for converting flim clips onto DVDs, especially from YouTube ....

So it appears FLV isn't a common format on many computers
where emailing vids are concerned.

Ok ta.
