Irritating Internet Problem

Hello folks, anyone got an idea what's going on here?

Experiencing a lot of problems with internet - try opening a web page (e.g. PPRuNE) and I often get an error message after the page has loaded with "Internet Explorer cannot open the webpage - operation aborted", then doesn't allow you to view the page. Refreshing the page merely brings up teh same message time and time again. Was doing it all the time last night trying to access PPRuNE - was on the verge of smashing a balled fist through the keyboard in rage...

Seems to happen on a lot of computers I'm using. What's going on?

All these computers using the same internet connection ? Checked the router stats ('noise margin' >6db) ? Can you load google ok ?

If you go into start menu, accessories, command prompt and type

ping 'www.google.co.uk' without the ''s

what happens ?

If that fails try same thing with

ping 209.85.147.105

which is google.co.uk again.

Why not Start -> Run -> cmd ....

Does this only happen with PPRuNe, or other sites too ? Does it happen consistently or intermitently ? (try running mr Optimistics pings with a -t flag to make them run for more that 5 or whatever the default is).

Have you tried rebooting your ADSL router ?

Is this WiFi or wired ? If WiFi, try plugging directly into the router and seeing what happens.

I was having PPRuNing issues last Saturday (intermittent dropouts), but a quick phone call got an engineer promptly despatched the same day to the local exchange to do a Tie Pair shift and problems seem to have disappeared.... line seems to have re-synced at a slightly better speed too. :ok:

Hopefully your issue will not require such a drastic fix though.

Have you tried using another browser such as Firefox?

What he said, plus there was a short period (around 1745) last night when the site appeared to be offline.

Captain S - I had this a while back with IE8 (not with FF) and the only way I cured it was to uninstall and do a fresh install of 8. Since then it has been fine.

I have had this the past few days but only with pprune. Slow to load, database error, need to double click a subthread. Then suddenly it all works.

Sorry everyone. We mods are just as frustrated as you are. I have been reporting since this morning, yesterday, the day before too that the server is going down. We are aware that there is an issue and that PPRuNe suffered an attack that caused numerous serious issues.

IB assure us that they are doing all they can to stop the rot but we know how much you want that rot stopped too.

At this time all I can personally can say is that I and other caring mods, are on to the powers that be and await their response. I do feel they are working on it but sometimes, I know, it never seems enough.

It's not just PPRuNE, it happens with many other websites as well. Happens on my home computer, work computer, friends' computers etc. - all different 'net connections (both Cat 5 and WiFi). Have seen it a LOT over the past few weeks. Pages not loading properly (or failing to load completely), error messages etc. The whole kit and caboodle. Very frustrating.May try a different browser e.g. F'Fox.Smithy

FF in the last 24 hours has been appallingly slow and refusing to open or load correctly many web sites. chrome is working OK for me.
I have no idea why this is and have asked FF what the problem is.

Load Toad 28th April 2011 23:32

OK FF responded.

Check if you have a plugin 'wang wang' - god knows what it is or where it came from (might have something to do with Alibaba). FF recommended me to disable it and things have improved a lot.

I've had this on here and a couple of other fora - but in generally the second or third time I try I connect OK.
