Looking at signing up with Plusnet Broadband
Has anyone any experience with plusnet broadband?
Looking at signing up for a broadband and phone option! Thanks. |
Been using them for 12 months at my mother's house in Kent. Been reliable if a little slow (house on edge of a village) and the cost is very cometitive for a basic broadband service.
My sister uses them in central London and again no complaints. |
IS the speed only slow because of the location?
I'm currently on o2 Broadband and its pretty quick to say I'm in a village also. |
I think so. If your speed is OK with O2 I would imagine it will be fine with Plusnet.

Jinkster,
IS the speed only slow because of the location? It's always a mixture of : (a) Location (b) Contention (c) Packet Shaping For more information on Plusnet's packet shaping policy, see here Contention is largely dependent on the BT network (non-LLU providers such as Plusnet effectivley buy their ADSL wholesale from BT*, and so are at BT's mercy). * = Before anyone says so, yes, this was intended to be an oversimplifcation ! |
Been using Plusnet since my exchange was broadband enabled about six years ago. Never had a problem and despite my exchange not being unbundled, an acceptible speed: up to 8 Mb/sec claimed, max achieved about 5 Mb/sec. They also host my websites as part of the service with 100 Mb storage on their servers and I get unlimited e-mail addresses, ending plus.com
British call centre for help service - bit difficult to find the telephone number on their website - but it is there. Engineers at the other end are helpful. P.P. |
Am with Plusnet now and came to them after disasters with AOL, Orange, Tiscali, TalkTalk and BT. So far, their service leaves their competitors for dead. There's no such thing as perfection in ISPs but Plusnet appear, at least, to attempt to provide a service with their customers in mind. Not the least of their advantages is their UK based help service - only used it once - absolutely splendid.:D

Plusnet are a BT company.

True: but so far without BT attiudes, BT management or BT pricing!

True: but so far without BT attiudes, BT management or BT pricing! Plusnet must have had some very good lawyers acting for them at the time of the acquisition in order to ensure this ! |
Another vote for Plusnet here - been with them for three years. Excellent customer service and reliable product.

Thanks all for the replies. May have to look into them a little further.

I've been with Plusnet 2 years and no complaints - My speed was always around the 1meg mark [I too live in village] then my speed started to decay, Plusnet looked into it and insisted I should get more than 1meg.
I must admit it took 2 months but they persisted got me up to 4.5megs [BT fault]- they have an excellent forum where any problems that have slipped through the net from the service team are picked up. |
Don't look now, but....
30/03/2011 @ 18:15 At approximately 5.30pm a significant number of our broadband customers were disconnected from the Internet and many appear to be struggling to get back online. This appears to be the result of a problem affecting parts of BT Wholesale's network and will be affecting other ISP's across the country. Our network engineers are investigating and further details will be provided as soon as they become available. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. Kind regards, Bob Pullen Customer Supportv |
Well it didn't effect me..
I always laugh at those announcements how are you supposed to read them if you have no access. |
