W7 64 bit auto update strangeness
 

Hello.

I'm running W7 Home Premuim 64 bit.

Every night this week when I shut down my PC, it has installed seven Windows updates. The updates seem to install quickly and with no problems before a normal shutdown. There are no error messages and the PC works as usual when I switch it back on....but there they are again, waiting to be installed.......it's been about a week now.....

Could someone tell me how I find out if they're the same updates each time?

Anyone else having this?

Has anyone any idea what is happening or what I can do about it?

The only recent changes I have made are:
1) Started using Kaspersky 2011 internet security which was installed about a month ago.
2) Installed X-Plane 9 (full installation....took ages!) about two weeks ago.

Apart from the installing updates on every shutdown, there seems to be no other problem with the PC.

My last win7 update was the 27/10, all the more recent ones have been Windows Defender updates.
If you go to the control panel and open the windows update bit it will list all the update history for you.

What happens if you try to run an update process manually through the Windows Update panel ?

I'll have look (once I get the PC back from the rest of my family - so probably tomorrow).

I will probably try switching auto updates off and back on in case the software has - to use a programming term - disappeared up its own arse.

Right, checked the update history, the seven updates were all failing to install!

Tried manually updating using the update centre, and all installed successfully except one: Security update for .NET framework 4

I'll try doing that manually now, and see how I get on....

EDIT (part 2)

Manual update for .NET framework 4 failed too, so did a bit of digging on the error code which was displayed (Code 66A) and some keywords. Got some advice from some helpful geeks. Downloaded and re-installed .NET Framework 4, then applied the update...and voila! Seems to have done the trick.
