What is the SYSTEM Group in W7?
I've just clean installed Windows 7 on top of Vista. On a logical drive that contains only data there are some files, which were there before the install and haven't been touched, that I can't delete.
When I look at the permissions I see that there are 3 groups - Everyone, Administrators and SYSTEM. For these files Everyone & Adminstrators have read only access, and SYSTEM has full control. I'm signed on as an adminstrator, but I can't change the permissions as it says I don't have authority. I also can't delete the files as they are read only for administrators. SYSTEM doesn't seem to exist as a 'real' user, so how can I get access to these files to delete them? |
Sounds like you need to "take Ownership" as administrator.

Thanks SD, that worked perfectly. Not come across that before, no idea why those particular files were different to everything else.
