PC Anywhere and the like?

Mammabert (Baujahr 1936) has just been introduced to the 21st Century by Maxbert ( Baujahr 1968), and now owns a laptop and is equipped with WiFi connection and all the trimmings. I bought her a Dummies book, and she is now fairly self-sufficient, at least insofar as web banking and Skype are concerned- I have warned her against 419ers and the like, installed Avast, made sure she had a clean install and I removed all confusing OEM shortcuts.

So far so good, but she lives 1000 Km from me and I would like to be able to do remote assistance when needed whilst “seeing” her PC, instead of shouting down the ‘phone trying to agree on what we are both seeing …

Are there any free (or cheap) PC Anywhere-type programs which I could install (and get Mammabert to install without either of us going into an apoplectic rage) which could enable me to maintain her computer at a distance?

Many thanks,

Maxbert

Yes there is....

....someone who knows more detail will be along dreckly; but my BiL's computer is sorted by his SiL from western Australia. BiL lives in Devon. He's fascinated as the pointer moves around the screen selecting and clicking then when the job is jobbed it gets "handed back" to him.

I've used both of the following. Both work well and can be free. Usual proviso re careful inspection of the download so it's the free version if that's all you need.

TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet

Teamviewer does the job for me, free for private use, never had an issue with it. I even do back-ups to my "mainframe" while downroute. Test it and see for yourself, get it here
sorry whitebeard, you were seconds faster :ok:

edited because broadband at retirement homes are obviously very fast

Another vote for Teamviewer, I use it to sort out irritations on family computers spread around the UK.

Never let me down yet.

There is also Logmein which has a free version as well, but I would go for Teamviewer every time.

Teamviewer every time - simple and safe for both ends of the task.
