Incredimail - any good or dodgy?
 

I've had this suggested to me several times but I'm a little bit dubious about it.

Any good/bad experiences?

Why should it be any more dubious than Hotmail or gMail ?

Pray do tell.

I installed it five or more years ago, didn't care for it - it can be a right b@stard to uninstal -well, it was for me. I was glad to get rid of it.

Why do you answer a question with a question?
It's not helpful, particularly when you cite two totally different arrangements.

One for, one against, so far.

Haven't used it personally but my brother did for a couple of years. He ditched it recently in favour of thunderbird (my preferred choice too). I think he just found it unreliable and a bit buggy at times.

Personally, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Only personal opinion of course.
Like Flying Serpent, have found Mozilla's Thunderbird more than adequate since early 2000s

Do you really want to do any of these things? They irritate the hell out of a lot of folks.

I have a friend who has recently switched to it and has been having trouble forwarding emails with images - some inages arrive others don't. I think he has it sorted now after I sent him a Google link.

Like cats_five, while I found the first few emails a few years back 'amusing', the b&w are now just annoying, especially when used on anything semi-serious.

If you want to look like you have the mental age of a 5yr old, feel free to send email full of emoticons, animation, backgrounds, adverts, etc.




....just don't complain when you find that the majority of your email disappears as incredimail content is one of the things regularly flagged into antispam.

Thanks chaps - sounds like a NO to this one then, especially given the features highlighted by cats five, and the fact that I've never used an emoticon anywhere.

I used it many years ago (much wiser now?) It is very childlike and entertains initially but then becomes annoying to everyone you send an email to. They advertise Incredimail on all your out going mail.
Then when you come to uninstall it's a pain......Good decision to avoid...As others I use and recommend Thunderbird as an email client.

Keep away, unless you are one of those teenage types who insists on using arrays of smileys and other useless punctuation. Extremely annoying to the receiver and has been linked with all sorts of other cr@p being installed on your machine unawares.

Most compelling is that it uses its own file format which is a sod to export out of. I had to purchase a copy of ABC Amber Incredimail to export messages from a client's mailstore and import them back into mainstream outlook PSTs.

It seems, from my spam filter, to be the mailer of choice for many spammers.
That's one reason I don't use it. The other is that Thunderbird does what I want.

While reading this, I thought Thunderbird looks just what I want. I downloaded it, and tried to install, but it tells me that I have the wrong name or password.

I'm not sure what I'm doing. Do I use the old Yahoo name and password that that I've used with the provider's deal for years, or start with a clean sheet? Even I can remember the old ones.

My provider is sbcglobal.net and I assume I have to stick with everything as it is when dealing with the same people. But I don't know.

(I would have like to change the 'screen name' to something a little less formal.)
