Defalut Player prob

Neighbours kiddy had probs with his Ipod so we plugged it into the draper home made super puter, also downloaded the Iplayer software to same,it appears to have changed all my music files youtube clips to its default player, how do I change it back to Media player or the VLC player I was using before doing this stupid download.
Many years ago I stupidly downloaded a picture viewer thingy, tried it and did not particularly like it so I deleted it,unfortunatelly it took all me pickies with it when I killed it.
I want to delete this pod player software is it liable to do the same??one dont trust these Apple folks
Worried of Gateshead.

Tony,

I would do the following:

1) remove the iplayer :yuk: software via Add / Remove programs. Unless you use it, you may also need to remove QuickTime. Also check that other Apple crap like Bonjour is not left behind. Disable the service, if so.

2) check to see if your file associations have been restored as they were previously.

3) if not, open VLC and see if there is a configuration option to "restore defaults" relevant to the file associations. If not, then remove VLC and reinstall it, which should then allow you to select the associations or accept the defaults. Possibly just re-installing it may do the same job.

4) If there are any remaining associations that you want for Media player, set those manually.

Right then removed all the Ipod stuff, desktop music icons remain what they were changed to,if I click on them it says restore Ipod player or summat,if I right click on em I can go to 'open with' and select VLC player and it does so,pain in the arse, will try what you say Mr D thanks:ok:
That seems to have worked ok they play when I clicks on em now thanks again Mr D.

You can also go control panel>hardware and sound>autoplay & set the default player in there.

TD - you have not defined your OS, but assuming you finally got XP that far north:), Control Panel/Add/Remove programmes/Set Programme access and defaults and you can fiddle to your heart's content.

I would vote to keep Itunes, personally - its interface with the Ipod is good and being able to share music libraries over a network is useful.

BOAC,

I suggested that he remove it because it was only installed to help out a neighbour. If it is not needed, and it is upsetting the preferred configuration, why keep it?

Yup - you are of course correct - didn't read it properly - I thought it was for a Drapelet.:)

Wye aye man! Know what you mean, but I used to find it slowed me down dreadfully when I was out jogging.

Just goes to prove that despite ALL rumours, Drapes is all heart - a 9mb download just for a neighbour's kiddy:p

tony draper 3rd July 2010 17:32

Well that download took about three seconds on the Draper home made super puter,a broadband instant to get, a month to get rid, of as we say in puterizing circles round here.
:uhoh::rolleyes:
