windows defender

dear all.
help please, whenever windows defender runs a scan on my lap-top it runs for hours (eg left over night and still scaning), its a recent problem and i can't figure out why it would suddenly start to take so long to scan.
i also run kaspersky 2010 as my main protection and have no probs with that. any ideas why it takes so long?
thanks in advance.

A Windows Defender scan with me only takes a few minutes.

However it has suddenly started switching itself off for no obvious reason.

Drop Kaspersky and use Microsoft Security Essentials (which incorporates a version of Windows Defender).

It is (gulp!) actually a pretty good antivirus......also lightweight and free.

:ok:

thanks mac,but i think id rather stick with kas 2010,ive used kaspersky for 2 years and think its one of the best.
just a bit miffed as to why windows defender has started to play up.
after thought.
would it be wise to run kas 2010 with microsoft security essentials or would they conflict?
thanks.

Only ever run one AV product. As to your Windows Defender problems, try the newsgroup as explained on this page:
