umax scanner
Does anyone have one installed? I'm in need of a copy of VS32.dll from C:\windows
If you PM me I'll send you my email address. ( I've tried googleing it but just get sprats to catch suckers) for some reason it doesn't install when I run the discs to install it in the XP virtual machine. |
It might help if you mentioned what precise scanner you need the driver for.

I'm not certain it matters Saab, It's a generic dll for umax scanners I believe but in case it matters it's a 1220U
|
Have you tried to download the driver from the UMAX web site? If the DLL is only for Umax scanners I imagine the driver includes it.
UMAX.com Download Software |
First place I went to, :( but thanks.

And now I see there's no official Umax driver. I would try this one though:
UMAX Astra 1220U - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com If you are using Vista or W7 then you might have a built-in driver for it. |
That link, also already found, takes you to a "how to do a windows update" page.
|
Bizarre. What version of Windows are you using? You might have better luck at somewhere like www.pcpro.co.uk, or if you can find any Umax forums.
|
I've now found a driver for it (no chance of finding anything for Windows 7) which is now installed in XP running in a virtual M/C. This allows me to mount the scanner and start a scan but it then un-mounts it's self halfway through. the Umax software I found this morning on a Russian FTP server cant see the scanner at all. I think the next step may be to try reinstalling from the umax disc having kept a copy of the VS32.dll that the Russian software installed.

Windows 7 might be why the URL took you to the Windows update - I can't find it right now, but there is something on the MS website which tells you what devices it includes drivers for. My own inclination would be to uninstall what you have installed, plug the scanner in and see if Windows finds a driver for it. If it does, then I'd run Windows Update.

The Umax Astra 1220U is not listed in the Windows 7 Compatibility Centre and is therefore not supported.
Have eventually got it to work in the XP VM by attaching it and then going to the device manager and deleting the unknown usb device and launching the scanner from the control panel's cameras and scanners area. A bit convoluted but at least I can use it now. |
