When my scanner is hooked up my camera wont connect.

My PC running XP has 4 USB sockets at the rear 2 at the front, for some reason when my image scanner is connected my pc wont let me connect my oldish Cannon A40 camera,

If I take the card out of the camera and plug it into a card reader it reads it no prob,

So I wonder why not the camera.

Possible answer

There is only a limited number of watts available for USB power...running out of squiggly bits.?????

Is it a canon scanner? If so perhaps it thinks it's the same device.
