Gmail oddity - anyone else?
 

Gmail requires me to log in about once a fortnight. When I complete the required fields the same page returns with the now blank fields.

I then have to reload from Bookmarks to get to my inbox. Doesn't seem like the way it should work to me?

I don't use the webmail much, but OE gmail login is running normally. How are you getting to the login? I suspect a 'personal problem' as they used to say in the deodorant ads:)

It comes up in place of the inbox periodically. I tick the 'remember me' box, fill in the necessary and expect to be taken to the inbox, but I'm returned to the same page.

Are you accessing via a browser? If so, which one? Both FF3.5.7 and IE8 behave normally for me.

I have only experienced this using iGoogle - but never had it using vanilla Gmail. In iGoogle it sometimes says to "Re-enter your information" in place of the inbox preview.

I use Outlook and Freeserve but get the same problem so, as they say in the trade, you're not on your own.

It is fixable, just can't remember exactly why. I seem to remember it is one of your mail account settings like check for authentication is ticked. Try google.

I'm still not clear how FB is accessing gmail? If via Outlook/POP3 'authentication' is only required for outgoing I believe, but SSL is needed for incoming, although that should not affect simply logging on. If FB is going straight to mail.g.c via a browser I have no problem there either.

Going to gmail via Opera (usually).

If I click Refresh, I get the same page back. If I go back to the bookmark then it takes me to the inbox as normal.

Cannot comment on Opera- only other browser I have is Safari and that, unlike IE and FF, demands a Captcha response.

Hijacking slightly, but I cannot get into a google sign-in page at all, no matter how I try. TOH has managed to log me in from his computer, so presumably something in mine is blocking all access.

Where do I start looking (bearing in mind I'm dim)?

If anyone understands this, I'd be grateful for help.
