No Sound

Hello,

I am unable to get sound when playing cd's, no sound or picture when playing dvd's. I am however, able to get pictures off a cd and sound when playing YouTube.

Thanks in advance.

Which operating system?

What hardware are you using?

And before It gets commented on again have you thumped it yet?

Sounds like the audio cable between the DVD and motherboard is either not there or not plugged in

Nah its a codex/driver problem of some form.

If it was just a cable missing he would get DVD pictures but no sound.

The sound system is working because he can play youtube.

Lets find out what he is playing with first.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm using Vista and trying to open it with Windows Media Player.

hold on Mad_jock!

dont forget that you can do digital audio extraction from the CD as well as from the cable (analog):p
So if he is set up for analog, he wont get sound from the CD if the cable is missing.

(this isnt relevant for dvd's though, its all digital there)

Try this free program, it will address your driver issues
VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

Best bet though is to go to teamviewer.com and install their app. Then get someone who knows their way around a pc to do the same, then connect to yours and help you muddle through it..
