Configuring updates... do not turn off

Any way to stop this cr@p (Vista) ?

My computer is fine, I don't need no stinkin' updates. I certainly don't need them when I'm right in the middle of composing an erudite and momentous missive.

Control panel>windows update>change settings then either turn them off or set to manual install

Latest updates for both Vista and XP can take hours/overnight to instal.
It's just another "denial of service" attack by Microsoft.
