Photo Software Recommendation Please
I've been using Kodak Easyshare Software since I took my first digital camera (a Kodak) out of its box, but find it a resources hog and a bit 'clunky' despite taking all the upgrades.
Can anyone please give me a personal recommendion for a better program from all the usual candidates which must be easy to use and simple to maintain. All I want to do is store and organise family pics (holidays etc) and get rid of 'redeye' - nothing more complicated than that. I would like to trial any candidate software on my lappie (Dell Inspiron with loads of memory and Xp Home) with a view to transferring my pics across from the Easyshare on the family PC - a Dell Dimension also well endowed with memory and running Xp Home. I don't mind paying! Thank you Cheers mcdhu |
My mum (!) is very keen on this: Picasa 3: Free download from Google
Personally I like media centre for pics. I have a bit of music on, while my photo's breeze by on the Ken Burns effect:p |
By far the best for photos is adobe's light room, but a tad expensive. But you can at least trial it for free: Adobe - Photo Management Software - Photoshop Lightroom
Paint shop pro used to be very good but since coral took it over it's got too pricey used to be around £50 now aroubd £250. :( |
I concur with Picasa. Free, good, and lots of features if you want to investigate them. The way it describes its features is a bit intimidating, but the basic premise is it will never harm your original image, so you can experiment a bit. You should try Picasa simply to know what you can do for free.
paint.NET is a good, free, photo editor. Irfanview is a good, free, simple to understand photo viewer. I'm sure one or more of the above will fit your needs. |
Another for Picasa!
Paint Shop Pro served me well for years, and if you can find one on eBay (even an earlier one, I used V4 for choice) well worth having. |
Picasa is great for the basics. If you want to be a bit more adventurous, Serif FreeSerifSoftware – free software downloads is very good, and FREE!

Thanks for the replies guys - I'm on the case!!

My favourite is ACDSee Photo Manager, been using it for years now. The trial is free for 30 days.
