Lost ADSL router key
 

New laptop running Vista. Cannot access my wireless router due having chucked manual on which I'd written code. Old laptop (XP) has key hidden behind fullstops (not asterix). Any programme available to decode? Router is D-Link Wireless ADSL.

There should be a recessed 'Reset' button that sets the unit back to factory defaults, including the passwords and user name. You can get those from this list. (usually admin/admin)

If the XP machine can connect to the router you should be able to login to the router itself and then you should be able to see the key in the pages that come up. Normally you are looking at typing 192.168.0.1 , 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 into the address bar on your browser.

Had to do that with sister in law's Vista machine, for some reason it just decided to dump all the settings so connected to the router via her Wii.

Is it the WEP / WPA access code or the admin password you haven't got? Or both?

Follow green granite's advice for the latter, hellsbrink's for the former!

If both, do the reset thing to factory defaults and then green granite's advice.

If you connect to the router by a cable and address it by the appropriate IP address you may find you have access to more reset and configuration facilities. Never played with a D-Link so I don't know what options it gives you.
