Have memory prices shot up again?
A while back I bought 2GB of memory for my laptop. That laptop is currently 'broken' and I am using my previous 'lesser' laptop which only has 512Mb currently.
Crucial want about 100 GBP for two CT533017 1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 though I recall only paying about 20GBP about a year ago for 2x1GB 200-Pin SODIMM PC2-5300). I know that memory prices vary - what is it that makes the price high now - or are PC2700s something special? |
Where have you been looking?
Don't know if it's in order to quote a website, so I'll pm you with somewhere that might be able to help.

The "going rate" is around £25 a GB for PC2700 200 pin.
However, there are several levels of quality, and Crucial are (I understand - never bought from there) the top level of quality. |
Still the about same from Crucial, GC

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs
I don't understand the significance of the differences that invoke the extra cost. |
Have you tried swapping the ram from the broken lappy into your current one?
|
I experienced similar while looking for 'old' RAM - I assume it is now out of mass production and, like Aston Martin spares, therefore more expensive (perhaps not the best comparison but you know what I mean).
