BALPA Website

The Balpa website www.balpa.org.uk doesn't appear to be working. I did read somewhere that they were changing it as of today, 3rd November. Anybody got the new site ?

Thanks.

Contaminated air campaign - it's over?

You know the great Blackadder sketch:

"Well Hurrah it's gone quiet, it's over......the great War, 1914 - 1917......".

Am I the only one to wonder what happened to Balpa's campaign for uncontaminated cabin air for their members benefit on their brand new web site?

Perhaps Balpa think all of their grounded members have forgotten...

Does anybody else wonder whose side Balpa are on and what the subscriptions are actually used for?

For the alternative site go to www.aerotoxic.org

The Aerotoxic Association won't let aircrew down so easily.

Its not over, just not flavour of the month at the moment.

Anyone know when the company forums wil be back up and running?

Artificial Horizon 3rd November 2008 17:51

Judging by past efforts to 'upgrade' the BALPA website we may never see the company forums again.

RoSPA article - flavour of the month...

Stormin Norman,

With respect, RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) has just published a 5 page article on contaminated air - this month!

You can see it on the Aerotoxic Association web site - here.

RoSPA will be doing an even harder hitting article next month on just how the airlines, CAA and HSE flout the rules that every other industry obediently follows.

Balpa reportedly told the Rospa journalist that the chemicals in aircraft fume events were '....no worse than experienced when walking along a high street'.
Not what Balpa concluded at their conference in 2005, where they stated that exposure to fumes causes chronic ill health....

If you fly bleed air aircraft, you really ought to know what you are breathing. Especially when the bleed air system goes wrong.....

Not quite!

The connection was refused when attempting to contact BALPA - Home

ETOPS 3rd November 2008 20:27

Works OK for me - have you tried clearing your cache?

ExSp33db1rd 3rd November 2008 21:58

Works for me too - forgotten my password ! but that's a different issue, the site works OK.

hunterboy 4th November 2008 07:25

The BALPA site seems to work ok, but I get an error when logging onto the forums....is that everybody elses' experience?

Busta 4th November 2008 07:29

Rien, nada, zip; been like it since sometime yesterday.

Some things don't matter very much, most things don't matter at all.

yes, same for me too. there is a note saying something along the lines of "the forums will take slightly longer to come online due to their large content"

foxmoth 4th November 2008 08:16

Works fine for me, even lets me go to my own company area, nothing much on there yet and as said, no forums - in the pipeline presumably.

Copied from the new Balpa Website:

Forums
The current BALPA forums are linked to via the forums tab. Phase two of the website project will see the introduction of new forums 8 weeks after the launch of the main website.

8 weeks

The clue here is the word "new"........

introduction of new forums
The original forums are being reloaded............if you have ever migrated a website with large forums attached you would have a little patience.

Worse things are happening today without worrying about a late changeover of the BALPA chat forum...............:ugh:

Why would I be interested in reading about bad news? I've got enough of my own problems without worrying about everybody elses!....;)

discoveryman 4th November 2008 09:27

Thanks ETOPS for the explanation. Missed that word 'new'.

The new site gets a :ok: from me.
