DATA RECOVERY - XD memory card
Dearest Gurus'
Anyone have any idea where I may find a free download programme that would allow me to recover data (read #1 daughters wedding photos'/significant birthday photos' etc) from an XD card that won't read. Error messages like "card read error" are being displayed .. have tried 2 seperate card readers and the camera - it appears #1 daughters card reader after initially displaying the photo's has somewhow corrupted the files and now I can't either read or transfer them .. Any advice most welcome. talk about frustrating! |
Convar's PC Inspector Smart recovery has worked for me in the past with CF cards. I don't know if it handles xD media.
|
Bushfiva - that's a nifty little programme - worked a treat! :D
Not only did it recover the photo's from the wedding last saturday - but all of the photo's I've ever taken! THANKYOU .. ;) |
Outstanding.

I've used "Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery" and find it's easier and quicker than Convar. Doesn't even need installing, and will run of a USB stick if needed.

Thanks 'Pram - went and tried that as well - presently up to 15k+ images retrieved - I'm thinking it must just be stripping the inner fibres off something else now - there's NO way I could have taken that many photo's in 12 months!
The only other teeny weeny small Q I have - neither programme has picked up the movie files .. anyone with any thoughts on how to retrieve them? |
'Voice, check the drop down box in PC Inspectors "Select Format Type". There's AVI and Quick Time MOV available which might do the trick.

Forgive me if I am hijacking this thread.
Following on from data recovery from storage cards. Can anybody recommend a program for totally deleting the data so that the above recovery programs cannot recover it? Formatting in the camera or computer doesn't seem to remove the data. Regards, CC |

Gidday 'Pram,
nothing recovered by quick MOV but AVI dragged up a couple .. thanks for the prompt. |
Compass Call, look up "Heidi Computers" on Google. they do a freeware utility called "Eraser". But have a look at their forum - there are some threads about erasing flash memory cards and USB sticks. It seems it's not quite as straightforward as you might think.

Thanks for the pointer to that site. Very, very interesting! With that knowledge I think I will use the programme suggested by Saab Dastard - Club Hammer:cool: Regards, CC |
Club Hammer is the most secure form of data deletion (for any storage device except tape - fire is best for that), but obviously not if you want to re-use the media!
It's also great fun! Just make damn sure you are hitting the right disk BEFORE you hit it. You are aiming for "smithereens". SD |
