IE8(beta) Any thoughts?
 

I've been using it for 24 hours and it seems quite fast but I get the odd notice saying it has had a problem and must close, which is then reported, and it doesn't close but carries on!

I quite like it for it's extra speed.

That's the way with beta releases, has always been thus. :hmm::O

Well, I'm still using it and after three weeeks I'm quite happy with it.

Had it a week or so now and although I haven't had any problems with it, the wife keeps phoning me at work telling me that the computer won't let her order our shopping off the Tesco site and when she's trying to buy frocks off Dorothy Perkins or whatever, she gets a blank screen.

Result, I say, if it stops her spending my cash! :ok:

Think I'm gonna go back to IE7 though and wait for the 'proper' version.

In short:

ie7 = :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:

ie8 = :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :=

FF3 = :ok: :D: :cool:

Unless, for many people, you want to print. Getting all evangelical over a browser is a bit naff, methinks.

Prints perfectly for me. Must be something in the settings.

So judging by the response only one other has tried it and the rest are happy to stay with FireFox? (which I have, but don't use much). The latest version of Opera is quite useful too, along with FlashPeak Slim Browser. Not so impressed with Google Chrome though.Safari seems quite good, just takes a bit of getting used to. As you can gather, I enjoy trying out different browsers and was hoping for some lightweight technical comment from other users on IE8 Beta! :8

I see the browser as a tool to access information, and as long as the current tool provides the functionality and performance I require, I don't have much (indeed any) motivation to change / experiment.

Perhaps others here have a similar outlook?

I mainly use FF2 on all my PCs, although I also have either IE7 or IE6 on all PCs for various reasons, including compatibility and testing.

You can't get more lightweight than the comment I gave ;)

But I expand: IE6 is IMHO 'quite' good (but not as good a FF2/3) and IE7 is a disaster - slow, cumbersome, inflexible, too zealous (tells me off every time I try to access our ever-so suspicious Intranet!) and it has that issue that you can't uninstall it after you apply SP3 (unless you reverse that back) etc... So, as they say on Dragons, for that reason, in relation to IE8, I'm out.

FF2/FF3 works well and never give me any grief (but their profile management is a bit weak).

BTW, the front of PC Advisor mag states that Google Chrome is the best browser out there at the moment :rolleyes:

Thanks amanoffewwords, regarding getting told off by IE7 for going to suspicious sites, I think you will find that is a configuration issue and you can tune it out, possibly a 'content advisor' in options thing or smart screen filter under 'tools'?
