Windows 98 Updates

Please help...

Has MS stopped issuing updates (critical or otherwise) for W98? I keep getting messages that there are critical updates available, but when I get to windowsupdate and select product updates, I'm told the resulting page has moved. WTF, over?
Thanks in advance...

I kept getting that message earlier today, by selecting "windows updates", I take it that is what you mean?

Got around it by going straight to the Microsoft website:-

http://www.microsoft.com

Then go to windows updates (under web services heading), worked fine for me, do not know why the normal way does not work?

Best regards,

Just tried the link above, it works fine....

Thanks Lame, tried that way, but no banana yet...

For info, the windows updfate home page appears with a bazillion 'error on page' bizzos, all on the links to anywhere useful.

Still stumped, please help...

Friendly Pelican,

I would be pleased to help you further, but do not know what is wrong then? IF you cannot just go to Microsoft via that URL that I posted, and then use updates???

I would be thinking at least defragment your drive, if you haven't done that for a while, or maybe deleting IE altogether and reinstalling it???

But you need expert advice, if FlyingGiraffe reads this he may help you (sounds like a load of spies, Friendly Pelican and FlyingGiraffe?), or try contacting him directly, his email is on a couple of recent threads, he is very wise with computers and very helpful.

Best regards,

"lame"
