I can't view my own replies - can someone help?
 

When I post a reply on PPRUNE, I go back to the thread, and my reply isn't there, despite the noticeboard indicating that there is a reply. They do eventually show if I re-boot the computer.

Its something to do with explorer bringing up the previous stored page rather than an updated one.

Is this something to do with cookies or something. Can anyone tell me how to change my internet settings to cure this.

This is a test to see if I can fix it.

The "classic" answer is to do with the caching on your pooter, but this problem has been getting so many reports, and I've had it in different locations and on different pooters, I'm beginning to wonder if PPRuNe is getting so popular that there's a copy of every page already on every cache between the host site and just about anywhere we log in from!

What version of Internet Explorer are you running?

Flyswift - version 5.00 that comes with windows 95.

OK, it's to do with the cache, so how do I change that?

Er, have you tried hitting the 'Refresh' button? By doing so it should overlook whatever is in your cache and bring you the most up to date page (well, thats it's function anyway)

Give it a go.

I think another thread here has shown a problem with some servers (Freeserve for one) which cache pages quite heavily, so even 'refresh' takes a few goes to persuade it! Just keep hitting refresh until it gives in. If your 'time of posting' is on the pprune page your pposting is too. It is just a case of 'getting' your server to show you.

One tip that was given to me is to type /? after the url address for the page that is being catched. Apparently it forces your browser to request the latest page from the web server concernend for supplying that page and nowhere else. Try it, it DOES work.

Often I find the same thing and need to refresh. However, in the "address" part of the toolbar (IE 4.0) it only shows http://www.pprune.org for every page that is opened.
If I do refresh, it goes back to the main screen and I have to choose the forum, etc. Due to this I click on a post with the Shift key to bring it up in a new browser window and then refresh that one (since for some reason the new browser window has the full address of the post).

Problem solved, as you say, press shift and left mouse click the page, then add a / after the address, and my reply comes up!

The reason that you have just http://www.pprune.org in your address bar is bacause the site uses "frames", notice that the sidebar (with Forums Weather Humour etc) doesn't change. In effect every time you click on a link the actual page you are on doesn't change, but the "page within a page" does.

Now the way I navigate the site is to open say Rumours and News, then go down and open any topic I am interested in, in a new window (incidentaly I right click and select "open in new window"), then hop down the bottom of the page and hit Tech Log. The beauty of this method, is that 1.) After the first page is complete I don't have to wait for any page to load. and 2.) if you need to force a refresh from your ISP with a ? the window already has the full URL in it.

My 2 yr old PC is quite happy with 20 windows open.
