Modem re-dial fault

Have a couple of computers, both give the same problem: if you have to do multiple re-dials (cos the cheap freebie connection is always engaged) the modem eventually comes up with an error message "unable to locate modem". The only option then is to re-boot or wait about 10-15 mins and it then works. Both have software (win) modems

Unfortunately Mr. B. the answer is in the question. Soft (win) modems are notoriously cr@p. Time to bin them and get a proper one I'm afraid, sorry.

same problem, finally stumped the cash up and changed the modem to a decent one and now its fine!
