Strange Things

Can anybody help with this problem which has just been mentioned in JB?
http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/For...ML/003042.html

Is it possible for certain freebies to do this?

mik 13th November 2000 20:01

A freebie, especially if it's installed as an ActiveX component, can do ANYTHING.

Installing a signed ActiveX component means you are giving full access to your PC, but you do know that Microsoft (probably) knows who wrote the component.

Installing an unsigned ActiveX component means that you are giving full access to your computer to person or persons unknown.

mik,

how do I un-activeX something like that?

Can it be done before/after or not at all?

Or can I just rip the mongrel thing out of its file and give it a jolly good deleting?

You can prevent activeX components from being installed by setting one of the internet explorer security options. Sorry, I can't remember which one it is & can't find out at the moment as I'm using a Linux laptop using a Netscape browser.

As I've never to my knowledge installed a badly behaved activeX component, I've never had to delete one. You could use the http://www.google.com search engine to look for details - try using keywords like
remove activex component
