Interactive UK Map
 

I need to find an ActiveX (or similar) which is a map of the UK (in outline). I need to be able to pass it two parameters (North and West coordinates) and then see a "spot" on the map at the indicated point.

There must be something out there somewhere, but I can't find anything!

Why do I want it? Have a look and work it out for yourselves!

I can guess - it's for ShortHaul Nigel, so he can feed in 2 numbers from the GPS and know where he is for a change! (wouldn't it be better if the thing had a Garmin interface, to eliminate that source of error ;)

P.S. - Checked the page, and clicked on "groups" and got a selection including "Animals", "Bushes", and "Childrens' Comics" :) . :)

I may be wrong, but doesn't Microsoft Autoroute allow you to use it's core engine programmatically. I'm sure that some of these mapping websites use it.
It may be way overkill for what you want though.

If you know the geographic coordinates you can type them in and see the exact spot on an Ordnance Survey one inch to the mile map at:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk

There is a facility to zoom in and out and see the place at different scales too.

Thanks for the pointer Blacksheep. Streetmap was unhappy with Lat/Long coordinates, but I found another site!

I have now (almost) cracked the maps problem, try Southend Pier as an example.

I need some help now with Latitude and Longtitude coordinates! See Tech Log for detail of my problem!

If you had a problem with Lat/Long. did you try this method?

"Search by Lat/Long

This will display a map for the Lat/Long coordinates. The format of the coordinates
is x.x,y.y or x:xx:xx,y:yy:yy where x=long, y=lat, -x is west +x is east,

e.g. -4.578611,52.038333 or -4:34:43,52:02:18 (note that leading zeroes are required when
using the degrees:minutes:seconds notation)"

Maybe you tried using the E/W and N symbols instead of the + and - signs?

Another tip. Although you can't save map images, I found that you can print the map section shown on the screen.

Just tried the coordinates you gave in Tech Log in Streetmap. It puts the Navaid as just on the north edge of Southend Airport. The URL is:
