Epson Photo 925 trouble

I have for many years sang the praises of my Epson 925 Photo printer. It's non - epson replacement cartridges have been cheap and always provided excellent quality. Of late, I have felt that the paper handling mechanism was getting a little worn and felt that a replacement would be needed in the not too distant future but I wasn't worried as I had had good service.
Last week I went on leave and carefully switched all my equipment off including the Epson printer to ensure that its heads did not dry out. On return yesterday I urgently needed to print of a boarding pass for a neighbour who wanted to check in for his flight on line. The necessary file was downloaded, I switched on my Epson and waited for the inevitable head cleaning cycle to finish. When it did, it's little red light started to flash and I was advised that parts needed replacement and I had to take it to an Epson service centre. No doubt the fee to re-set the software will be more than the cost of a new printer! It was working perfectly when I shut it down, but a Google search to find any re-set instructions has been unsuccessful. Has anybody got any ideas? Naturally the usual tricks fail to impress it. I assume that since new there has been a counter ticking away as to the number of sheets printed and when this number arrives - bingo! we'll have some money please if you want your printer to work again. Grr - built in obsolescence in it's worst form.

Thanks Nutloose: Problem solved, and if I was really clever I would change my waste ink pad as well.
