Using hosts to stop pop UNDER adverts

When sites that I regularly use employ pop-under adverts that don't get stopped by pop-up blockers, I simple edit the HOSTS file to block them with 127.0.0.1 instead. In fact, I use a HOSTS file I found on the web that has pretty well all the common advertising sites built in to it so it's very rare that I get a pop up or pop under that "beats" my measures, and therefore just as rare that I need to edit the file to add a new one.

The ITV-F1 website is however now employing advertising from utarget that I haven't been able to stop with IE7's or Firefox's blockers, or with the HOSTS technique.

IE and Firefox are the *ONLY* two browsers that are allowed to be installed on my work laptop (so please don't recommend Opera or A N Other browser).

Also because it is a work laptop, I must leave Javascript enabled.

I am though most interested in learning why this (flash player) pop-under ad can beat my precautions and within the two constraints above, how I can block it.

For the record the entry I added to my hosts file says "127.0.0.1 utarget.httpsvc.vitalstreamcdn.com" without the quotes. The parent site of www.utarget.co.uk is already blocked.

Cheers!

Why not simply get the AdBlock extension for FireFox? Then you can wildcard it and block http://*utarget*
