AVG Advice
Hey All
My AVG subscription has just ended, and i am looking around for whats the best at present... But what is considered the best? Seems like they are loads and loads to choose from, and loads with good reviews... I have been using Avast for a year with no problems, its over sensative at times, but cant complain about that... So, i have been looking at - Avast - Kapersky - NOD32 - Bitdefender I have heard plenty of people moan about AVG recently, and known plenty of people having got a virus having AVG (grisoft) on there system, so little unsure about it. Recommendations are most appreciated and welcome. Cheers |
What do you want in the way of security? A suite? Standalone applications? Firewall? Behavior blocker?
Using XP? Were you using a paid AVG AV, or suite? And how secure do you need it to be? (ie: do you use it for banking etc) I've got a reasonably secure setup using just freeware applications. Scan with one or two highly rated demand scanners now and then, as a check. They never find a thing. The combo is Avast Home, Threatfire, and an older version of Comodo Firewall, combined with the MVPS hosts file, Firefox with noscript and adblock+, and the Secunia PSI for keeping everything updated. Demand scanners include Superantispyware, MBAM, and Asquared. I use it for everything, CC and banking included. |
Kaspersky AV guards the laptop here; no problems. I read that they often find threats first & alert other firms.
Avast Home is on the desktop; also no problems. Comodo firewall on both. It takes some training, but I'd rather do that than rely on the XP firewall. A PC Answers review of Bit Defender mentioned that it's not easy to fully remove from a system. |
If you go here, http://www.avira.de/de/pages/index.php and select the English language option, then go to Downloads, Avira is a freebee and quite highly rated.

Well i think its Kaspersky or Avast...
Kaspersky is available as a suite, so I think it will get my vote... Seems to fair better than most other AVG's with the exception of NOD32? Never heard about NOD32 before I found a review, so not sure how it will fair over time... Thanks for the replys, think i am settled on Kaspersky Suite |
I imagine you'll likely be very satisfied with the Kaspersky software. Listed here is how well the firewall component fared in a popular firewalls test, and available here (click on "comparatives" then any "online results") is an independant AV test site, showing that your choice has always consistently performed well.
Some users have reported slowdowns, I believe it's a minority, but just a heads-up, there. |
