Installing 98SE over 98 - take two
 

This a continuation of this locked thread.

I'm back on the problem, as I've been given wireless and corded network cards for this laptop, but I can't get the instructions as offered on the old thread to work. The suggestion to extract a .cab file fails, as the system says the file is not there to be unpacked, while the suggestion to delete/rename win.com also fails.

Another forum suggests renaming both win.com and winver.exe in \windows\system from the DOS prompt, which I can do easily enough, but I can't then run the 98SE CD in the D: drive, as DOS can't see it.
