If you are into basic image manipulation I prefer Irfanview - also free, more facilities than the above, and also does batch processing - with a batch re-name facility as well.

As a_a says, it looks like Irfanview does it better and it's an all-in-one app.

But welcome to C&I and thanks for the tip. It's always good to have different tools for the job. Irfanview has a lot of options that can be confusing and this does look a bit easier for newbies.

I use the obvious and boring choice just to resize my pics...

Picasa from google, its not to bad, i use it to fix exposure in cases too.
