Outlook Email Messages
Hi,
I have Outlook on a pc and I have just bought a new laptop with Outlook on as well. Can I copy the emails from my pc onto a disk and then put them onto my laptop? Is it a special file type I have to find on the pc? All help gratefully received. Thanks MF |
To discover where Outlook stores your PST files:
How to Determine the Location of your Personal Folders Files: Use the following steps to determine the location of your .pst files: 1. On the File menu, click Data File Management. 2. Select the name of the .pst file that you want more information on. 3. Click Settings. 4. Click OK, and then click Close. How to Back Up Your Personal Folders File: Use the following steps to back up your entire .pst file: 1. In Outlook, click the File menu, then click Data File Management. 2. Select the Personal Folders name that you would like to back up. 3. Click Open Folder. 4. Select the desired .PST file. 5. Right-click on the .PST file and click Copy. 6. Right-click in a blank area of the folder and click Paste. You can copy all the PST files to your new machine and import/use them from there. If it is Outlook Express you are using (different animal) your message store is located in this folder: X: \Documents and Settings\XXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\XXHASHXX\Microsoft\Outlook Express Where X is the letter of your Windows drive (usually C) XXXX is your logon name (IE Admin, Max, Owner) and can be seen at the top of the standard Windows Start Menu or under Users in Control Panel XXHASHXX is Windows hash for your MS OE identity. Best to drill down to the folders in Explorer rather than type the address in your address bar. Note that Application Data folder is hidden and you will need to enable viewing hidden files under Tools > Folder Options in any Windows Explorer window under the VIEW Tab. These DBX and IDX files can be copied to a disk, then imported to the new Outlook Express installation. Good Luck ! |
Thanks
