Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve Dial-Up

Can I please pass on something that has come up twice recently.

A relative uses Dial-Up with Orange/Freeserve and they told me last week that for about a fortnight they had not been able to get onto the Internet or been able to check their e-mails. (Mac OS9.1). They cured it by talking to Orange and learning that their Dial-Up telephone number had been changed.

Either they weren't told about the change or through not reading the PR puff e-mails from Orange/Wanadoo about the rebranding they missed this vital bit of information.

Today I was talking to a retired Client who asked me if I could give him any advice about his home Internet connection that has stopped working. (Windows). On asking if he was on Dial-Up with Orange he said how did I know! He has gone away to try the numbers on the Orange website to see if this cures his problem.

If anyone knows if Orange have changed any of their (Windows) numbers or if they find one of the three published numbers more reliable than the rest then please can you let me know so I can pass the info on to him - by phone not e-mail! (I am guessing that Orange has separate access numbers for Windows and Macs but I am probably wrong and that any number works for either type of OS.)

Since I imagine most of us are on Broadband connections I am not anticipating a massive respose to this thread - or indeed any at all.

Many thanks in advance to any that do!

(In case anyone suggests using a broadband connection instead my relative is now going to do just that!)

I think ET is aware that the 'Mac OS' number has changed but is asking about the 'Windows OS' number

08450796699 still works for me. (As a backup to broadband.)

My freeserve dial up (backup for rare occasion that broadband is down) goes to 08440587000

Last time I tried to contact Orange/Wanadoo/freeserve on the above number to keep my e-mail address alive, it connected and then immediately started to download a file. I got fed up with waiting when the file reached 2 Mb, being used to broadband speeds so closed the connection. Anybody know what's going on?

P.P.

Edited to add that I have just tried the above number again and it worked perfectly! In fact I am (at a snail's pace) writing this edit via the Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve dial up ISP

I do not have dial-up with this company but just a general comment about them: they are bl**dy useless!! :*

We have had broadband with them for quite a few years, starting when they were Freeserve. They are always very difficult to contact and I have had no end of billing c*ck-ups.

I decided to move to another company a few months ago but they offered such a good price for me to stay that I felt I couldn't refuse.

As ever, I wasn't told that the company is now Orange and wondered why a payment had gone to Orange this month on my bank statement. It is obviously too much for them to keep their customers informed about anything so these probs are no surprise. :(

Many thanks for all your comments. Looks like it's just the Mac number that has changed then if everybody else is able to keep on connecting using their old numbers under Windows.
