Renaming Multiple Files
Is it possible to rename more than one file at once? When I upload images from my digital camera, they all come out with names like DSCF0001, 0002 etc. I would like to personalise them, but it takes forever doing it one file at a time.

Microsoft Knowledgbase is a wonderful place !
Renaming Multiple Files
Or in a nutshell - select all the photo files in your folder and Press F2 The first file selected will have its file name highlighted ready to be changed... Type in the new file name e.g. EC135 ( if it were a set of pic's of your favourite Police helicopter  ) and hit enter. The first file will now be named EC135, the next wil be EC135(1), then EC135(2) etc. :ok: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...11/coconut.jpg Coconutty |
Coconutty - I tried that but I get a 'confirm file rename' box coming up for each of the pictures in turn. Is there anyway to avoid this?
Oops - just clicked the link and see that I need to be in Windows Explorer! |
Try Irfanview. Free and fabulous.

Irfanview works well
For a standalone, 14Rename - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/14rename.html - is the best renamer I've found. "1-4a Rename (One for All) is a powerful mass renaming tool, that can modify names and extension for a large number of files at once. It offers various renaming schemes, many of them not often found in other tools, as well as preview of the new file names and complete Undo. The program allows you to convert case, add prefixes, add incremental numbers, remove spaces, replace characters and more. Standalone, no install needed." Oh, and freeware, too... |
