WiFi Booster High Gain Antennas ?

Has anyone any experience of using high gain antennas 'downroute' for picking up signals?

Do they help pick up normally unseen networks?

Say .. http://www.edimax.com.tw/html/englis...EW-7317UHg.htm

Or the Hawking products ..

I fitted a 12db directional antenna at home to try and get wi-fi in my sons bedroom, from a downstairs room, going through 1 solid wall, it was better but not great.

They're one of the standard measures I use. If you have an a/p with two antennae, substituting one with a directional antenna may work wonders. It does not matter whether you install it on the access point or on the client -- sometimes you're precluded by the fact that your antenna connectors do not match, or the antenna be separable at all.
