HP Laserjet 2100TN Keeps Jamming
 

Every so often - not always - it jams and I have to clear it.

Is it a general problem with laserjets?

I am lucky enough to have a Laserjet 4050 Duplex at home, and I don't ever remember it jamming!

At work, all the printers are Laserjets (2300 now, I think) and again I rarely (if ever) see jams.

Things to check:

Where abouts is the jam? Paper pickup (before the image is applied) or after (at the fuser)?

Are you using OEM are remaunfactured cartridges? Is your paper weight and type within manfr. recommendations?

Are you overfilling the paper tray?

Have you used any adhesive labels that might have left a residue?

One of the most common problems is when the pickup rollers get worn, and more than one sheet gets fed. You would need to get the pickup rollers replaced, although sometimes a good cleaning can cure the problem.

There's a product just for this: google for "roller cleaner [spray]".

It jams all the time after the fuser - basically where it turns vertical - it then goes horizontal to land in the paper tray!

Jamming at the exit is possibly a design flaw, possibly due to some FOD obstructing the exit path. It might be worth a look on HP's website to see if there are any known (and admitted) problems with the paper path on that model.

Paper Separator Blade
 

I had an HP Laserjet that also used to jam. Problem was the paper separator blade which only allows one piece of paper to feed at a time. This is NOT something you can fix yourself - you need to take the machine back to HP (who will charge you a fixed service fee - which is about 40 - 50% of the cost of replacing the machine!) or to an independent servicing organisation who can access HP spare parts. I went the latter route and the machine carried on for another couple of years when I donated it to older son and heir who still uses it from time to time.

If you get an "accordion" paper jam after the fuser, it is the small rolls at the device that turn the paper onto the cover of the printer having lost their grip.
