Dodgy Windows Explorer on Imac

Imac running Panther 10.3. connected to the Internet via a router In the last few days, it has decided it does not like Internet Explorer. Firstly, there was a notice when opened “Can not connect to server.” Now, when it is opened, the multi-coloured spinning wheel rotates continuously, and won’t let us in at all.

Mail is fine- we can send and receive. In the Network Utilities, I have tried pinging the router and a couple of URLs- absolutely no problem, so we are connecting to the web.

Please, can anyone help?

Not sure might be causing that. It may be an idea to check the following:

Other internet services are working normally

Port 80 is being forwarded from your router's firewall

Try rebooting the router (ensure that you either know your router settings or
have them backed up before attempting this)

If all else fails, try reinstalling IE from here.

But there is a better way - development of IE for Mac stopped years ago and support has recently been discontinued. Even Microsoft themselves are recommending that Mac users move to a 'more modern browser'.

I use Safari myself, plus I also keep a copy of Firefox handy for the few (usually M$-centric) sites Safari has a problem with. IE was fine in its day (three years ago), but these newer browsers are far faster, more stable and render pages much better than IE ever did. Go on, treat yourself - try the latest stuff and see what you've been missing! :ok:

Why are you polluting a nice machine with Microsoft's clapped out old browser? As Jinx says, there are much better browsers around and MS won't be releasing any further updates for the Mac.

Switched to Safari, and problem's gone away. In fact part of the screen was obscured by a graphic box in Explorer, which did not occur on our PC- but that problem's gone too!

Thanks, both.
