Epson...I eat my words.
 

Well, the 5400 is back. An initial test seems okay. It was 18 months old when I threw a fit and nearly threw the thing in the nearby river. But they said that "if I would like to take it out of the trash and send it to them they would repair it." They even paid for the carriage both ways.

According to Staples, they occasionally do repair outside the grantee period. I guess each case is judged on its merits.:)

Nice to hear that they've done the decent thing. Regrettably, I am still of the opinion that this would not have been their attitude if you had originated your enquiry in the U.K. So I hope to be corrected on this one day. So far the three Epsons in my household continue to work with few glitches - on non Epson ink!
