Webcam 'Live' streaming - How?
I have just bought my first webcam so that while my family and I are living in Florida we can video chat with our family back in the UK via MSN Messenger.
So far this has been successful and I would now like to try and take things one step further. I have some personal web space through my ISP and would like to be able to setup a page so that I can stream live webcam images to my family on Christmas morning. I have managed to set up a few pages using the ISP's click and play set-up facility but I have no idea how to go about streaming the webcam. Any advice on how I can do this would be much appreciated. Hi Matt. You will need to download some 'Webcam Streaming Software'. Google for it and see what comes up. Lots of free ones about and some you pay for.
Good luck. |
I have used Yawcam with some success - it is free and fairly straightforward to setup.
It is easier to set up if you have a direct internet connection, rather than through a router, and streams direct from your PC which acts as a webserver, so you don't need your ISP webspace, although you would be able to link to it from your site. Streaming will require a reasonably fast (broadband) uplink, but as you have been using Messenger I assume that you have sufficient bandwidth. Another one I have used in the past is VisionGS which does stream via an applet on your ISP website, but I think that you now have to pay for the streaming version. |
