Thank You

Those who know me, know where I spend most of my time (Mil Forum Thread).

However, I am a prolific lurker and occasional user of this thread.

Things have looked busier than usual here lately, so I just thought I would start a thread to say thank you to those who work tirelessly to help those of us who spend more time breaking our machines, as opposed to those who use them properly.

I hesitate to name indivisuals for fear of forgetting someone and causing offence, so may I just say a huge Thank You to everyone who looks after, and unselfishly assists us mere mortals.

I, for one, am very grateful for what you do.

Brian :ok:

Brian,

We are always glad to help. ;)

Take Care,

Richard

P.S. This is a great forum with a lot of dedicated people willing to help others. :ok:

The Voice 25th November 2004 06:37

I too add my thanks .. I have spent the most enlightening afternoon following some advice from one of the threads on this site ..

Impressed - most definitely, and when I can tear my other half away from the desktop, I shall sort that mess out too!!!!

Evo .. your spyware thread is MOST helpful and very easy to follow, even for a non PC user like me!!!!

Devlin Carnet 25th November 2004 08:48

Yep, I echo the sentiments, Well done guys :ok:

BRL 25th November 2004 09:18

Big thanks from myself too. I have had lots of great advice in the past from you guys here and am thankfull for that. Cheers. :)

One thing I do like about this forum, is if someone gives advice that is not right or not too good then they do not get blasted by anyone here. There is no flaming, hounding out etc and your not made to feel stupid either, thats the nice thing about it, no worries about feeling bad after giving wrong(ish) advice.

The fact that you guys give advice for free, off your own backs is pretty cool too. I would hate to think of the bill I would have had if there were such a thing for all the advice given to me here from you lot.

If there was ever a pprune computer forum bash then I would be first at the bar to buy the first round :) Cheers all.....

SeldomFixit 25th November 2004 12:06

My thanks to everyone that posts here and specifically to those who have frequently saved me from myself when it comes to " matters PC " :(
Rarely a day passes that I don't learn something from this forum and that can't be a bad thing. Thanks to all. :ok:

That is precisely why I moved from Wanabees and Pvt Flying to here. :ok:

As I see it, no one can know everything about computers and we will all make mistakes at one point or another.

When you have that PPRuNe Comp Forum Bash, I will look forward to being there. ;)

E-Liam 25th November 2004 18:44

Hi Brian,

as echoed by others, I'm happy to help. As Richard said, computers are complicated things, but between us all, someone will know how to get you all going again. As far as providing a free service, it's far more rewarding to get a genuine thankyou, than a half hearted cheque. I can afford the bills and the beer, so I'm happy enough. :ok: :)and I started learning my stuff after being helped out on Techguy's forum a couple of years ago for another problem I had, so I look at it as returning the favour.

I don't get the time to jump in at the other forums I help out on any more, so I jsut stay pretty much on this one now.

It's a good feeling to have lost count of how many people you've helped.

As afr as the drink.. yes, I'll do that.. although it'll have to be in the UK, as ironically, I don't like flying.., :D:D:D:D

We had to get the train back from Austria earlier in the year, as after flying out there a quivering wreck, I bottled the flight back.
:oh: :oh: :)

Cheers

Liam

redsnail 25th November 2004 20:40

Yup, I'll echo my thanks for this site. FRED has really benefitted from this forum. The cute lil iBook (Apple) hasn't need it :D

Any way, the advice and encouragement is the best. Well done. :ok:

P.Pilcher 25th November 2004 22:27

Just to endorse what everybody else has said I may not post very often, but I read the wisdom of Richard, E-Liam and their many expert colleagues every day and go away knowing just a little bit more.

Thanks all of you

P.P.

SawThe Light 26th November 2004 06:54

Thanks

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments of the above.

Must admit that sometimes the answers from the gurus tend to make me think that I'm some sort of a w@nker for missing the obvious.

Nevertheless, thanks to those who respond to my sometimes stupid questions. (Didn't seem stupid when I posted though.) Keep it up guys.

STL

E-Liam 26th November 2004 09:00

STL,

One thing that everyone must remember..

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

It may be easy for a lot of people here to answer, but that in no way makes it any less genuine an enquiry than any other. You ask, and someone answers.. end of story. :ok:

You have to remember that many people use a computer to access the 'net, and write the odd letter/email, and nothing else. Even questions as simple as how to format the text of an email to make it more impressive, may be the difference between someone getting a job interveiw or not.

We don't necessarily know how important the info we give could be, but it must be important enough for you to ask in the first place. That means that it's always essential that we give clear concise replies, and that's consistently been the case for all the help I've seen given on this board, in the year or so I've been posting here. And long may it continue.. :)

Cheers

Liam

willby 26th November 2004 18:05

Cant identify enough with the sentiments being expressed in this post. Help is always offered without the comments " this has been done to death", " do a search" , " where did you learn to spell" etc etc.
If only the Wanabee Forum would take note!
Thanks to all who regularly come to the rescue.
Willby

Evo 26th November 2004 20:01

Wow ... I run short of PPRuNe time for a couple of days, and look what I miss :)

Brian, you've stolen my thunder a little - I was saving my thanks post until Christmas time - but I'd also like to thank everyone for taking the time to post here ... and I'd particularly like to thank you for making my job so easy. Apart from the occasional one-post advertisers in search of a freebie, i've hardly had to touch a thing.

And I agree with Liam - there is no such thing as a stupid question. Maybe i'll ask Danny to swap out the big red disclaimer at the bottom for this forum, because if someone doesn't dare post for fear of feeling dumb, we've dropped the ball. Right now software moves so fast that it does things before anybody has time to think about how it should do it, and right now computers are a long way from the household appliance that they're sold as. Besides, I've been messing around with the damn things since 1980 and I still haven't got it... :O

So thanks, folks, and if BRL's buying the first round, i'm buying the second :ok:

Brian Dixon 26th November 2004 21:38

OOps. Sorry Evo.

Do I need to start an 'Apologies' thread?? :O

I'm in the queue to get a round in too!

My best,
Brian

BRL 26th November 2004 22:56

Ok, how about a computer forum bash? Sometime late january, early february something like that maybe in London, could talk planes and computers until the cows come home.......

Would anyone be up for that?

PPRuNe Radar 26th November 2004 23:02

Presumably you'd hold it in an Internet Cafe ?? :p

E-Liam 26th November 2004 23:11

Beer?? ..in London?? .. No flying?? ..Yep, that sounds like a plan! :ok:

Name the pub.. and look for the hairy arsed biker type that helps old ladies across the road.. he's lovely really.. :)

Liam.. anticipating the coming hangover..

Cheers

Excellent thread Mr Dixon.
Want to ad my thank you as well. Information is priceless, all the help freely given to ignoramusses like myself; it's all cause for great gratitude. I am convinced that is only thanks to all the stern warnings, detailed guidelines and how-tow threads here that I have manged to keep our PC relatively trouble free for almost 2 years now. :ok:
I'm real fond of hairy assed bikers, and you've helped me across the road many a time already Liam!

...of course there is also the strangely mesmerising quality of the more technical threads. I don't understand squat, but they have such a soothing effect on my brain that I retreat to the computer forum for a restorative read whenever JB frazzles my nerve endings a bit too much for comfort. Like watching a well kept tropical aquarium but beter. ;)

IFTB 29th November 2004 12:15

EVO, Richard, E-Liam et all.

I have many times recommended this forum to friends all over the world and had enthousiastic reactions later. I know for certain that there is one group of people in Bangkok who depend on the info in this forum to keep their PCs running and will say a big "THANK YOU" on their behalf.

Good topic.

I've recommended this forum to a good number of people and all have come away with the answer they wanter either by using the search function or registering and asking the question.

A big thanks from me for all the help given over the last couple of years. Wish I was in a position to repay some of the debt. So if anyone has a AutoCAD, AutoDESK Viz/Max or Bentley MX type question please step forward!

Regards

It's good to be able to convey gratitude for the service provided in this forum, I was feeling guilty as I've gained so much help lurking and hadn't shown appreciation!

During my recent trouble I don't know where I would've been without the help from the threads here!

:ok:

Ridley 1st December 2004 01:53

I gotta admit, this forum never ceases to amaze me.

Over the years, I've gathered quite a pool of sites to help me with any technical issues, from C++ forums, support for the latest windows libraries, to what DVD's to purchase, I've amassed quite a collection of hard to find sites that manage to give me the information I need.

Yet with all those resources, I find myself coming here first and finding the information I need before any of the other resources respond.

Truly a gem amidst the throngs of useless sites that make up the Internet.

Thanks to everyone who ever answered one of my questions.

Marcus

I can only concur with whats been said above: The various problems people have with their pcs are usually the same everybody else has too and so a person very seldom has to ask for advise. Just read through all the invaluable advise allready given and "walla" Thanks guys for your time and effort.
My PC runs really well and the tips and tricks I've picked up here have helped me and friends out of the cyber-poo on more than one occasion.
This site is a "must click" for everyone even vaguely interested in keeping their computers going.

henry crun 3rd December 2004 01:01

I'd like to add my thanks to the guys who provide their expertise for dummies like myself.

Thanks guys.

TheStormyPetrel 4th December 2004 23:09

Oooh how did I miss this thread? What a great idea.

Let me add my thanks to Danny for the pprune site and this forum and Evo, Richard, Liam and other helpful persons for contributing and providing never ending and patient assistance to us all.

:) :ok:

Stripholderloader 7th December 2004 17:08

I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum. It has been a great help to me over the years and has saved me from many hours of head scratching into the early hours.

I particularly like this forum because of the extremely high wheat-to-chaff ratio. Serious questions, serious answers. You experts have saved me from even more gray hairs.

Thank you all very much.
