Check Disk function
hi guys,
yet another problem i'm afraid. Everytime i start up my comp windows XP runs the Check Disk Manager and always seems to find a corupt file then deletes it. Now even with a porper shutdown when i start back up it launches the chesk disk manager again and the same file is found and deleted. Now i dont have the time to copy stuff from my hard drive onto disk and wipe the hard drive and start again so anyone got any ideas? kempus |
Sitting there watching this can get to be a real pain can't it? Can you supply a bit of tech detail on the PC? Is it for example, an older PC creaking along with XP, or is it a super duper new machine fresh from the dealer?
Whatever it is, you should have a good AV programme installed and be keeping it up-to-date. Also, a firewall to protect you from nasties, and finally have installed all appropriate Windows XP critical updates? The history of the machine will be most useful though - for example, have you recently run remedial programmes like Norton Diskdoctor and Windoctor? |
Kempus,
First thing I would do is go into My Computer. Then right click on the Drive in question and click on Properties. Then click on the Tools Tab. Then click on the Check Now Button under Error Checking. Put a check mark in both options. The computer will want to reboot, let it and let it do a full scan of the Drive. Take Care, Richard |
