My ISP blocks certin web sites from my home

I am a new resident to the middle east, and am finding my access to some web sites being blocked by the government as,

"Not in keeping with the social and religious views of the counrty"

Am I just stuck with this, or is there a way around these restrictions?

Proxy...

If you use a proxy server outside the area that is being monitored to retrieve pages on your behalf then you will probably be able to bypass this.

However if accessing the site is illegal however you do it then you may still have problems if you are caught with data in the logs on your PC.

The following links may be of interest, if you are allowed to read them.

If you are on broadband and have a tech savvy friend in one of the more liberal parts of the world perhaps they could act as a proxy for you? This would reduce the annoyance of trying to find a public proxy that works where you are, the powers that be tend to block access to proxies too.

Thanks for the info
Only bad part is I could not access 3 of the 4 web sites posted.
Could only read about the Harvard study as the rest were blocked.

Wish me luck

PM me

KevinD767,

Send me a PM and I'll send you the web site contents listed.

If that doesnt work, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

[I used to work in the sandpit many years ago so I know your problem, as it were...]

I also live in the same sandpit, what works to access some sites is open a web based email account, like hotmail or yahoo and have someone email you the link and open via the email link. Works for some sites, some sites still managed to get blocked.

... or email yourself the link ?

KevinD767 22nd October 2004 14:18

.....tried the e-mail link trick, but still no luck.

Anyother ideas????

Okay here is a long shot, my ISP states that if I feel it is unwarrented to contact them, so depending on the nature of the sites try writing them....

I know a long shot but hey..........
