Unlocking computer DVD region - not trying to be dodgy!
Having just moved from England to Canada, the region for my Laptop is now obviously incorrect. It's a Compaq Evo N200.
I've been trawling the internet to find out how to actually change the region, as I not only want to watch DVD's, I wan't to burn a couple as well. Any thoughts? |
Jerricho,
Video Help is a great website which should have everything you need. ;) Take Care, Richard |
www.rpc1.org
Read through the forums & you'll more than likely find a solution for your model DVD drive. I've done several drives through the info on them. |
Tinstaafl,
Nice link. :cool: Richard |
I think you can only use it for 15min until you register, :ok:

Jerricho.
I installed DVDRegion free a couple of years ago, and it is brilliant. It totally bypasses the region coding on your dvd drive. (it doesn't change the firmware), and it works even if your player is now region locked. You can download a trial version from dvd region free For copying dvd's, I've found that dvd shrink (freeware) is very good. It will copy encrypted dvd's also. 419 |
I prefer to to remove the DVD's hardware coding, hence my enthusiasm for rpc1.org. Lots of firmwares available for flashing the DVD drive.
There still remains any region coding limitation in your operating system & DVD player software to overcome. I use DVD Region killer for that. It's freeware too. |
I agree with 419's enthusiasm for this, having just fully installed it after the free trial.
These sentiments have been echoed before, re. this particular software and I only highlight it again due to an additional point of interest. .....I was somewhat put off initially by the stated potential problems and lack of support for DVD-RAM drives (included in my new laptop, albeit as part of a multidrive). .....A reply to an enquiring e-mail indicated that this website statement was to be on the 'safe side' and that it would work with some DVD-RAM's. This fortunately was so in my case. .....Well worth the free trial if you have a DVD-RAM. |
Yeah, but this one is free, Decrypter :}
