Download "not authorised"

Just developed an annoying problem.

When I go to a site to download a little prog, when I click to download I have lately been getting a blank page with "you are not authorised to use this page."

Sometimes I get HP 403 error too. Anyone got any ideas about this. Is something switched off?????

Downloads were easy at one time!!

PPRuNe Pop,

If you give us the link, we could try it for you.

There are several possibilities:
  • Malware issue
  • Broadband or Router needs a reboot
  • ISP does has a connectivity issue
  • Bad Link on the website

Take Care,

Richard

OK Richard, and thanks.

MrBass.org. DVD deCrypter.

DVD Shrink, latest version. Many others.

PPRuNe Pop,

Since it is many different websites. I am wondering if some form of Malware has infected your comp.

I would run HouseCall, Ad-Aware, and then download Hijack This! and post the log file here. Do NOT make any repairs. (Hijack This! pulls up everything, including programs that are supposed to be in your computer.)

Take Care,

Richard

Well. Fun and games here Richard. Tried Housecall, fine. Ad-Aware, 148 'data miner' and tracker cookies all now quarantined.

Tried downloading Hijack and finished getting a download I didn't ask for (SpyBlocker 15 day trial). But from and 'not authorised' page - but could have been a long delay. Getting more confused by the day. Still cannot download DVD decrypter update or DVD Shrink update for the same reason i.e. when I click on the download it goes straight to 'not authorised' page but I have downloaded other things but NOT with same slickness I am used to.

Could ZA have anything to do with it? SP2 perhaps?

Thanks Richard.

ZA may be an issue if it block referrer information being sent (used to be a problem with Norton)

As to SP2, well...:ouch:

'Not authorised to view this page' still keeps appearing guys. This is after I click on the url. A real pain.

Have checked ZA but I think this might be a blocking issue. One which is stopping me getting out but not every time.

Things were normal a couple of weeks ago. Any mileage in going for a restore?

Naples Air Center, Inc. 3rd October 2004 14:45

PPRuNe Pop,

You could try shutting down ZA first and see if you can access the pages. If not, we could try a restore or use another computer to download HJT!, then run it on the computer in question, and post the results here.

It sounds like you have a webpage hijacker that ZA sees and blocks. Therefore you see it as not authorized.

Take Care,

Richard

ZA is the problem.

Bingo as they say. Downloads are now OK. Question is which part of ZA is causing it.

PprunePop,

Have you tried the test your referrer page on the site you mention before: http://www.mrbass.org/leech/ (click the bit that says "Click here to test if what your referrer is")

That would help eliminate (or otherwise) the referrer thingy I mentioned before.

Cheers
Charles

PPRuNe Pop,

Glad to hear you isolated the problem. :ok:

Richard
