None of my video/media clips are working.......
Hi all. Suddenly, all of my video files, audio files are not working. The only ones that work are mp4's on WMP.
I haven't changed anything, everytime I try to play something I get the usual windows can not play this file, it may be corrupt, in the wrong format etc.... and tells me to go to a site to download additional codecs etc. I just can't work it out why.!! What can I do..? Win XP. |
BRL.....
Had a similar problem and downloading the codecs solved it. However, before doing that - as you are on XP - why not 'System Restore' to a date previous to the problem. .....A very useful tool, often overlooked in the initial trauma of a problem. |
Well, I can't do a restore. Everytime I try, it says it cannot create a restore point and to restart my computer and try again. I restart and it says the same thing. I have plenty of memory and hard disk space so I don't know why it does that.
Where did you get your codecs from? |
MS Media Player 10
Microsoft have just released Media Player 10 with lots of new features. It might be worth giving it a try to see if it sorts the problem.
It can be found here |
BRL.....
Good suggestion from Phoenix09. Downloaded '10' several weeks back; very neat. Failing that, codecs for previous (& 10) HERE. |
Many thanks chaps, all sorted now after downloading the link from Phoenix. :ok:
Irfanview also works ok now too. :) Cheers :) |
Slightly different problem (W2000/Radeon 7000 video card/WMP9) but I now cannot play the video in an MPEG - I get only the opening frame, all the sound and then the programme locks up the whole damned show! I have just downloaded and re-installed WMP9.

BOAC,
Have you tried a different Media Player to see if the problem is with WMP or some other issue? Take Care, Richard |
NAC - why didn't I think of that? Glad you are not on holiday :D
A few mb later I ran a clip on 'Real' player - the same. I guess I start looking at the video card now? |
BOAC,
Before running out for a new vid card, I would look at updating your Catalyst Drivers. If that does not work, it might be time for a fresh install of your OS. I highly doubt it is a Hardware Issue. Take Care, Richard |
