Wireless query
Just set up a wireless connection through the house. Router hard-wired into son's puter and running fine. My puter has a wireless connection and also running fine. Mum's puter also has a wireless connection to her puter and is NOT fine! In a nutshell her puter seems to have 3 x options for connecting to the router (on the network connections page) and all are disabled. I can't seem to find a way to either 'enable' them or delete them in toto and start again.
FYI the wireless connections are Belkin and hers is definitely powered up. Any ideas out there? And oh yes KISS rules cos I am puter thick! Brgds FW |
And the OS version is?

Fokkerwokker,
Have the Wireless Router open to anyone, (and do not use Encryption). Then log into the Router and see if you can find, under connected devices, her computer. Also, on your Wife's computer, see if she can see the SSID. Once you get all the computers you want connected to the Router, then set the MAC Address lockouts and add the Encryption, etc. Take Care, Richard |
I've had similar problems, partly solved by me, and partly solved at great cost by a chap from the local computer shop.
Things to watch out for that I got wrong... (1) Don't have more than one way of connecting at a time, disable all but one. For example, don't have a hard-wired AND wireless connection to the router on the same PC, it'll tie itself in knots. (2) Watch out for firewall software, it can decide that the wireless network isn't secure enough for it's taste and stop you accessing it. (3) Check all the right bits were installed as part of Windows. You might need to do an update installation. Failing that, call in the local computer shop! G Glad I'm only paid to understand aeroplanes. |
