System 32 files corrupt or missing
Hi
I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I can't find any reference. On starting my pc this morning I am faced with the 'missing or corrupt file \Windows\system32\config\system' message. I run AVG virus checker daily and Zone Alarm Pro, but I fear this message may be letting me know there is a boot sector virus. Could this be so, and is there any way of restarting the machine to purge the virus. Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance |
SaratogaTC,
More likely you just have a corrupted system file. If you are running WinXP just use the CD to do either a repair or a fresh install. Take Care, Richard |
Thanks Richard
All now back as it should be. Dave |
Dave,
That is great news! :ok: Take Care, Richard P.S. How did you fix it? |
Richard
As you suggested I used the Repair Console(?) and after a couple of failures it finally decided to repair and restart. Oh the perversity of inanimate objects! Appreciate your help. Kind regards Dave |
Dave,
I am glad you got it to work. Richard |
