Copying CD's

I have been trying to copy a cd today, Data cd, games...... and I came across something I have never seen before. It would not allow me to copy it as it said something about ILLEGAL MODE. I gather this is a way of protection for the producer or did I mess up somehow?

I am using Nero 5.5.

There are other programs that let you burn copy protected CDs.
