Hi all

I'm in the market for the USB storage key, the small thingies.. Up to about £100 would be the limit!!!

Any good ideas or suggestions?

If you want the best value, get someone going over to the U.S. to pick one up for you. They will not take up any room in their luggage.

Best one I found, and bought, was the PQI intelligent stick. Very very small (2 fit in a credit card holder.) and at a good price, I think I paid about £28 for 128Mb.

The USB 1.0 version does seem slow compared to a USB 2.0 stick a collegue had so i'd pay the extra for the USB 2.0 version of anything you buy.

Depending on what you are going to store on it, make sure you get one with encryption, see here for an example. If you are really paraniod, you can now also get them with a fingerprint scanner built in. :}

I use a generic USB memory module thingy, and you plug in a Compactflash card into it. That way I can update the memory I need much cheaper and the card also doubles as the memory card for my camera, so I don't need to carry the tranfser cable around with me.
You can get Compactflash (and other formats) pretty cheaply now, and they come in up to 2.2 gigs as I write this.

Horses for courses? A USB Flash Drive is neatly packaged, and can connect directly to a USB port without a cable. Using a CompactFlash card to transfer data from one computer (say at work) to another at home, wouldn't the 'module thingy' also need to travel with you? USB FDs are only marginally more expensive than CF cards (if you shop around), and for some the convenience factor may win the day.

Yes, it does have to travel around with me, but it's very small and you can't stick a USB thingy into a camera. ;)
