Compact Flash cards in the UK
 

I have just bought a Nikon Coolpix 2100 from Jessops (2MP) it came with an 8mb card which is not really big enough - it will hold about 18 photos.

I am thinking of getting a 64mb or a 128mb.

Where is the cheapest place to buy one from? Online would be nice.

Dunno where'd be cheapest in UK.
I'm on my second Lexar Compact Flash card, 'High Speed Digital Film' 12x (1.8MB/sec) which has a warranty as long as owned by original purchaser.
The first completely froze up, losing one folder of images and locking another. There was also a folder of various files. Fortunately all the stuff had already gone to the PC.

Lexar sent me a new card which is working OK. Only complaints - bit slow in handling and about three quid at my expense to post & insure.

Hope they weren't too offended by the folder of various files which was a compilation of laddish jokes/pics/videos given to me by an old buddy I met BKK-LHR :}

Jessops are selling there card for £29.99 and Argos the same card for £29.99.

Jinks.. I got the Viking one at similar money from Amazon at xmas. Very well packaged,by both Viking and Amazon. Working OK (about 250 high definition pics on my 2 megapixel Pentax).

I was looking at the 'cruical' cf cards for the camera. Anyone know if they are any good. Would have gone for viking - but delivery is high and its will arrive next week.

This Comparison Review of CompactFlash Cards may be of some interest. The summary at the bottom of the tables favours Viking over Crucial.

Having said that, Crucial are one of the brand leaders in all things to do with 'memory', and I doubt that you would be disappointed.

As well as Viking, I've used Sandisk, Canon, and Verbatim CF cards, all with good results.

Jinks, having bought a cheap digital camera to give it a try recently, I found the cheapest place for cards online was My memory .

Got a Lexar 128 mb card from them and delivery was quick and no problems with the card.

My advice would be to buy the biggest one you can afford. £60 for 512mb why skimp.

On this subject has anyone had performance problem with bigger cards. I notice if I am flicking through the images on my 128mb cards on the camera the presentation gets noticably slower as the number of images advances away from 1. By the time it hit 2000 i could imagine it would stop.

Money apart, the bigger they get, the more you get into the "eggs all in one basket" scenario.

I did actually ignore someone's advice on this; coincidentally ending up with a nearly full large CompactFlash card that went U/S on me, with a genuine fault. .....Rare I gather, but no consolation at the time.

www.scan.co.uk are very good for everything from components for building PCs, bulk DVD-Rs/CD-Rs, I'm sure they'll have a good price on CF cards. I've bought quite a bit from them and never had any trouble (god I sound like an advert).

www.ebuyer.co.uk - Generally pretty good prices ( for all sorts of computer components ) which are regularly updated - they currently have a 256 Mb card for £36.41 inc. VAT & delivery - I'd be wary of going too "big" - you might not need it and if ever there was a fault there's all that extra data / pics that could be lost !
